Spanish in Everyday Life

When you start learning Spanish, you’ll find that you hear it everywhere: in the mall, an elevator or even on television. Let’s consider other ways you can experience Spanish in everyday life:

  1. You could move to a Spanish speaking country – even during retirement. More and more North Americans are choosing to travel and live abroad. Many people are choosing to spend the rest of their days in a Spanish-speaking country. Learning the language can help you to integrate smoother in your new country. It’s easier to focus on the “new” culture and local ways of doing things when you can already speak to people.

  1. Maybe you’re always dreamed of working as a flight attendant. A second language can give you an edge in hiring process. Spanish is always in high demand (Galvin, 2015). You could practice your Spanish and travel to the European Union, the United States and South America, all at the same time!

  1. You can experience the culture. Maybe you love flamenco, tacos, paella, the weather or the art of a Spanish-speaking country. Everyone is different. Some people may be drawn to Peru while another might love Uruguay. The good news is, you have plenty of Spanish-speaking countries to choose from.

  1. You can keep your mind busy. Maybe you have a child who asks a million questions and wants to know everything. Sometimes you may feel like trying something new. Maybe you’re retired and you’re looking for a way to keep things fresh. It’s never too late or too early to learn.

  1. It’s a good way to pass the time. Maybe you’re bored and looking for something to do. Maybe you just want to spend time with new people. At Spanish schools like this one, you have the chance to speak to new people and enjoy social events.

  1. You can enjoy something in the native language. Have you ever thought of how Spanish movies are without subtitles? Sometimes, movies, books and comics include puns, cultural references and jokes that don’t translate well to the English market – so things get lost or removed in translation. Enjoying something in the original language can introduce you to a different type of humour and teach you different things along the way.
